Whales are the largest mammals that ever existed. These are beautiful mammals that, in addition to manatees, completely adapted to life in water. Although it looks like a big fish that are actually being with all the characteristics of a mammal, instead branches have lungs, as opposed to fish. Whale heart is divided into several chambers, they are warm-blooded animals (as opposed to fish that have variable heat), live born offspring that feed breast milk. Whales would never be able to survive on land because they suppress their own weight and because of the high thermal isolation experienced to heat stroke. Whales are mammals with more than 80 species. There are many types of whales, from dwarf to enormous length which reaches over 30 meters. Whales are very unique animals, despite being the largest mammals and they are most long standing beings on the planet. So far the oldest known whale is male who died at the age of 211. The whales are very sociable animals. Groups of whales can be counted from 10 to 50 animals in certain circumstances and more. Unfortunately these beautiful creatures facing extinction due to man. Almost all species of whales have a population that are counted only in the thousands. Man threatens them in two ways: directly by hunting and environmental pollution. It is time for a man to sit and ponder what makes a wrong and to stop the disappearance of many species among which are the Whales. Take a look at some kinds of whales and think would be the world be the same without them.

1. Bowhead Whale

This species is the least endangered species of whales because they are widespread and very common type. They mostly live in subarctic and Arctic area. These whales are stocky, dark-colored dorsal fins without. Their massive bodys can weight from 75 to 100 tonnes and they can be long over 20 meters. Their population counts from 8000 to 9200 individuals.

There are two subspecies of Fin whale to su the Northern fin whale of the North Atlantic, and the larger Antarctic fin whale of the Southern Ocean. Fin Whale belongs to the highly endangered species, as well as other species, Fin whale’s been decimated by a man who has hunted them mostly during the 20th century. Fin whale population counts about 64,000 individuals.

Belongs to family of Rorquals. This whale is pervasive mainly in warm seas. This whales has dark gray in color with a white underbelly. They can reach the length of 13 meters and weight from 16-18.5 tonnes. This species, like most whales, is feeding itself with planctosns, seashels and small fishes because they don’t have any teeth. It has twin blowholes with a low splashguard to the front. It has no teeth, but has two rows of baleen plates. The head of Bryde’s whales makes up about 25% of the body, with relatively large eyes. Population of this whales counts from 90 to 100.000 individuals.

The Sei whale is considered in the biggest whales. It belongs to family rorquals and it is third by the size (after blue and fin whales). It inhabits most oceans and adjoining seas, and prefers deep offshore waters. It is very widespread. It can reach a length over 20 meters andweight of 20 to 25 tonnes. The whale’s body is typically a dark steel grey with irregular light grey to white markings on the ventral surface. During the late-nineteenth and twentieth centuries, when over 255,000 whales were taken. The sei whale is now internationally protected. Now their population counts about 80.000 individuals.

This type of whale also belongs to rorquals family. It is very common, can be found in all the oceans and seas almost all.
Humpback whale can reach a length of 12 to 16 meters and a weight of 25-30tonnes. Humpback whales can easily be identified by their stocky bodies with obvious humps and black dorsal coloring. The head and lower jaw are covered with knobs called tubercles, which are actually hair follicles and are characteristic of the species. Humpbacks feed only in summer, in polar waters, and migrate to tropical or sub-tropical waters to breed and give birth in the winter. During the winter, humpbacks fast and live off their fat reserves. Like most species and Humpback whale is a victim of men showing off. Their population is about 80,000 individuals.

Belongs to Eschrichtiidae family. The gray whale is distributed in an eastern North Pacific (North American) population and a critically endangered western North Pacific (Asian) population. Gray whale belongs to rare prevalent whales, their population counts about 26.000 inividuals what makes this specie endangered. This whales can reach the length of 14 meters and weight from 14 to 35 tonnes. The common name of the whale comes from the gray patches and white mottling on its dark skin. Gray whales were once called devil fish because of their fighting behavior when hunted.

7. Pygmy Right Whale

Belongs to Neobalaenidae family. This whale is one of the smaller whales, his maximum weight can be up to 3.5 tonnes. The coloring and shape of the pygmy right whale, dark gray dorsally and lighter gray ventrally, commonly with a pair of chevron-shaped lighter patches behind the eyes. The biggest length that Pygmy Eight whale can reach is 6.5 meters. This species inhabits mainly the southern parts of the ocean. The total population is unknown.

Minke Whale is one of the whales that at least in his family (Rorquals) and between all other species. Maximum length that can reach 7.5 meters of up to 10m. This whales can weight to 9 tonnes. The back is dark grey and the belly white. There is a double blaze of lighter grey on each side rising up from the belly. Flippers are dark with a white leading edge. They live in oceans and seas just only in the southern hemisphere. The total population is unknown.

Blue Whale belongs to Rorquals family. Blue Whale is the largest whale, the largest animal that ever lived on this planet after the dinosaurs. It can reach the length of over 30 meters and weight from 100 to 120 tonnes. Man that stands next to this boulder is very tiny. Long and slender, the blue whale’s body can be various shades of bluish-grey dorsally and somewhat lighter underneath. The blue whale has a long tapering body that appears stretched in comparison with the stockier build of other whales. This species is found in all oceans, however, this species is in endangered species. Their population is 5000 do 12.000 individuals. Although they are huge feed on the plankton and other tiny organisms!

Their bodies are very dark gray or black and rotund. They are also incredibly friendly, and often swam right up to boats as well. Unlike other whales, right whales have distinctive callosities (roughened patches of skin) on their heads, along with a broad back without a dorsal fin, occasionally with white belly patches, and a long arching mouth that begins above the eye. The maximum length that can reach from 11 to 18 meters and a weight of 40-80 tonnes. They are bigger than Humpbacks and Gray Whales, but smaller than blue whales of course. This specie is widespread and it population counts about 7.500 individuals, what makes it the most endangered specie. There are sub-types in this type of whales, and they are North Atlantic right whales that live, like you can see in it’s name, in North Atlantic, than North Pacific that lives in north of atlantic and Southern right whale that lives in south parts of Pacific and Atlantic. By the way Southern Right Whales are sub-types of right whales which are the most numbered.
